Information on obtaining a Passport and Visa to visit Brazil PASSPORT DETAILS - You need two items to travel to Brazil. You need a passport and a Brazil tourist Visa. You must have both or you will not be able to enter the country. We recommend either going to your local post office to obtain a passport or one of the online services. I persoally recommend getting a Passport online because it's much faster, you get personlized service and you can track the process. The post office system still has a 8-10 week backlog. If you order online, you can obtain a passport in 24-48 hours. In order to get a passport, you need the following: Birth Certificate Two Passport Photos (You can obtain those by going to a local FEDEX/KINKOS or Walgreens Drug Centers) Drivers Licence or (legal state ID Card Application supplied by post office or online passport service You them must take them to your local post office or government agency that handles passports. If you are not sure how to find one in your area then go to this address: http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/ and look up the closest agency from your residence. The cost is around $100.00 to process your application from the post office. We recommend choosing the expedited option, so that your passport can arrive in 2 weeks or less. We also recommend one of the online Passport services if you need your passport within 48 hrs or less. It will cost an extra $100.00 for super speed processing so just choose your method based on when you to fly. BRAZIL TRAVEL VISA - Brazil has enforced a rule stating that you must get a signature from the Brazilian consulate. In order to obtain a Visa follow these steps: Make sure you have your passport. You need a passport first in order to get a Visa. Copy of your drivers license. You need to sign a Visa application. You can obtain them from one of the Passport and Visa companies online. You must provide two photographs ( yes in addition to the passport) See Passport photos above for more details. Warning: When you take your pictures, please don't put your best "I'm in prison, gangsta rapper, hard as hell, I'm a thug in these streets, mug shots". Save that for your own home use. When you take your photos, you have to impress the Brazilian authorities that you are just a tourist who is looking to have fun in their country. Just take a regular photo. They have real people who look over your applications and photos. If they suspect you will be trouble, then they will reject your application faster then you can blink your eye. A copy of your travel ticket or travel confirmation email. You can only get a Visa if you are flying within 90 days and you must prove it by providing a confirmed ticket. You can only obtain a Visa after you buy your ticket. Total cost for your Visa application will run about $179.00 for everything. It takes about 7 days from the day you send your forms off until you get it back. So if you do not have your passport or visa, it will cost around $325.00- $375.00 to get everything in about a weeks time.
